Brain games for adults are activities that stimulate cognitive functions such as memory, reasoning, speed of information processing, pattern recognition, cognitive flexibility and control, and multiple simultaneous attention. For all these reasons, many colleges study, develop, and apply brain games.
Some featured colleges have shown these games help sharpen the cognitive skills mentioned above. All the research that takes place in these colleges serves to improve the effectiveness of brain games.
Can Any Brain Game Be Effective for Adults?
So-called brain games for adults can be well-known games such as crosswords, Scrabble, or chess. Painting, learning new languages, and even playing any musical instrument can be considered brain games because these activities develop and stimulate the brain. For this reason, featured colleges include these activities for their students.
Other colleges even conduct researches that explore and creates new brain games to play at any moment. Although these games are classics and are for sale in any store, today people can get more sophisticated and entertaining games to play on electronic.
Brain Game for Adults Developed by Featured Colleges
Many of these games have been developed or have proven their effectiveness thanks to well-known professors and featured colleges. One of them is Harvard, where developmental psychologist Stephanie Jones and her team at the Harvard Graduate School of Education are developing a new approach to Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). To achieve this, they have developed “Brain Games” a set of quick activities mostly aimed at children, but can be adapted for adults.
On the other hand, a team of professors from New York University and the University of California has developed three games (Gwakkamolé, CrushStations, and All You Can ET) that develop cognitive skills such as memory. This project was the result of four years of research and was sponsored by the Institute of Educational Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education. They can be found in iOS and Google Play applications.
